Sergio Monjas
Sergio Monjas García is a Director of Photography born in Madrid in 1981. His bond with the image started at age 10, watching his uncle film everything at family gatherings. That early curiosity ("Uncle, what do you see?") stayed with him, and it turned into a career.
At 15 he picked up his first Polaroid and fell in love with photography. He spent years teaching himself, shaping a personal eye, before studying Audiovisual Communication in 2005. By 2008 he had his first professional camera and was shooting his own projects.
His influences run from Robert Frank and Walker Evans to Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Alberto García-Alix, Gregory Crewdson, and Ansel Adams. A mix of documentary grit and deliberate visual storytelling that defines his work to this day.
After working through every stage of the production chain, Sergio stepped up as Director of Photography in commercials and music videos, lighting campaigns for Burger King, Carrefour, IKEA, Land Rover, Jaguar, Movistar, DGT, Netflix, San Miguel, Zara Home, PlayStation, Randstad, Betfair, and Luckia. In music, he has collaborated with León Benavente, Manuel Carrasco, Kaydy Cain, Cora Novoa, Los Estanques, and Sidecars.
Outside of work he travels, watches films, and stays outdoors. All of it feeding back into how he sees.
Sergio's cinematography is rooted in natural light, which he treats as the main storytelling tool. He goes after organic, honest atmospheres where the image breathes and the viewer feels inside the scene. His frames balance realism with stylisation, pairing cinematic texture with a clean, contemporary look. Composition and colour are handled with care. Enough emotion, never overload.
The camera doesn't intrude, it accompanies. Light doesn't just illuminate, it builds meaning.
