Nono Arruga

Nono Arruga started in the industry at just 16, working as a production assistant at Arruga Studio in Barcelona. That was over three decades ago.

His early years were spent learning the craft of camera assistance and focus pulling from the ground up. In 1995 he made the move to Director of Photography.

When the new millennium arrived, Arruga went freelance and never looked back. Since then he has shot hundreds of commercials, music videos, and audiovisual projects of every kind, working alongside a wide range of respected directors both in Spain and abroad.

Three decades of work show deep experience and real versatility. Arruga is just as comfortable on grand-scale productions as he is on lean, low-budget shoots with limited gear. He has directed multi-camera setups, framed celebrities, and adapted his approach to fit whatever the production demands.

What drives him is cinematic narrative. Projects where light is more than illumination. Where it carries meaning, supports the idea, and becomes part of the story.

Arruga's approach is built on honesty and coherence. He prioritises what the piece needs over what looks impressive on a kit list. No posturing, no excess. This is a craft of proving, not showing off.
